Jabir ibn Hayyan

c. 721-815

Jabir ibn Hayyan was an 8th-century Arab alchemist and polymath, sometimes referred to as the father of chemistry for his systematic experimental approach.

He refined the alembic still primarily for distilling medicines and fragrances, with no direct written evidence that he ever used it for alcoholic spirits.
